About Us

“La Baita” means “the refuge” in Italian, and this name captures perfectly the ambiance of this superb Italian restaurant, a retreat from a hectic world to a place where fine dining and attentive service abound.

[image of Edwin Melgar] Edwin Melgar began his career at Archers in Fort Lee, where he worked for 16 years in both the kitchen and the front. He then moved on to managing the famous Stony Hill Inn in Hackensack, and later he managed Abbraccio in Cliffside Park. In 2003, what had been Ruffino’s Restaurant in Butler became available, and Edwin saw the advantages of this location, easily accessible in the heart of Northern New Jersey. Thus, La Baita Cucina Italiana was born.
